Ric Gillman - Christmas Medley - 2020
The finest guitar player to ever inhabit Madeline Island in Lake Superior. A mystical medley of SILENT NIGHT, LITTLE DRUMMER BOY, and DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR played in Ric's signature finger picking style. Originally recorded for Madeline Island's Covid era online Christmas service in 2020, its a rare chance to hear some holiday music from a much missed maestro of the acoustic guitar. Play on Ric !

Bobby Vee Radio Interview UP NORTH DECEMBER 2003
Просмотров 606Год назад
An interview between Bobby Vee and WCCO Radio personality Don Shelby from Vee's 2003 promotional tour ahead of his UP NORTH DECEMBER Christmas shows and CD release. I've heard a lot of radio interviews with Bobby over the years, even accompanied him in the UK when his GREATEST HITS package was released and he did an intense round of radio chats broadcast all around the country. But this may sti...
We'll Meet Again (Whittet/Beswick/Allison Quarantine Version2)
Просмотров 3884 года назад
A little collaborative family musical history video. Shot this the night before the 75th anniversary of V.E. (Victory in Europe Day). With the global COVID-19 lockdown, the huge street parties that were planned in the UK have all been scaled down to a few observances - the final one being everyone heading into their front yards at 9pm to sing this song - an anthem from the end of the war. So we...

A while back, a small business opened in Buffalo, Minnesota that quickly became a beating heart and kind of community living room for craft beer lovers, music lovers and lovers of good old fashioned human connection and conversation. And Wednesday nights at Hayes Public House grew into a safe haven for a cast of musical misfits (sometimes known as THE DITCHWEED GOATS) who've found a home and pl...

Bobby Vee - The "Stayin' In" scandal of 1961
Просмотров 6 тыс.4 года назад
Bit of a bruhaha in 1961 when BVee released his epic teenage violence opus STAYIN' IN. Schoolyard smackdowns. Detention. Shattered friendships - all in the name of a girl. The press (really did) have a field day with this John D Loudermilk lyric (the man who also wrote Paul Revere and the Raiders' INDIAN RESERVATION, The Everly Bothers' EBONY EYES, The Nashville Teens' TOBACCO ROAD, Eddie Cochr...

Lucky enough to make music with these two as a member of THE DITCHWEED GOATS at Hayes Public House in Buffalo Minnesota most Wednesdays. But on this night I just ran around with the the cell phone camera capturing this spontaneous performance out on the deck overlooking Buffalo Lake. You won't find better hand crafted trad beer or a more music minded public house anywhere. And Wednesday nights ...

THE CHARTERKATS A once a year band born from a drunken sailor's fever dream in 2001, the H.M.S. CharterKat launched into the seas of Lake Superior music as an excuse for a bunch of salty seasoned musicians to be in a band that didn't play too often, didn't rehearse too much, but more importantly allowed for time to hoist a sail, sip a brew, and play only music that they loved - some original, s...

From the shores of Lake Superior, a sampling of the guitar and violin alchemy that is BAREFOOT WONDER. T Bruce Bowers and Ric Gillman are quite a pair. From The Casanova Club in Coatbridge Scotland 1974. From a period where Bobby Vee had reverted to his given name, was penning his own songs again (see the wildly underrated NOTHIN' LIKE A SUNNY DAY - an LP backed by the Five Man Electrical Band and players like Red Rhodes (steel guitar) who gave James Taylors SWEET BABY JAMES album much of its flavor) Anyway, a sweet acoustic little record in t...

Not sure why it happens, but I sing this song to myself once a day, in its' entirety. I don't remember starting to sing, at some point I'm just in the middle of it, and so I finish it. It kinda freaks me out.

So, I have listened to REM for years. Automatic for the people got me through a major period of depression and anxiety in like 1992. I recently rediscovered this song, and you folks did an awesome job. The fact that this was in the dark days of Covid and how you did it is amazing. The cello, the stand up bass and of course the accordion, no shock you are Midwesterners. I live in Iowa. I retire soon and if I pass through Buffalo, MN I will find this bar or a bar. I bet if Stipe saw this he would be very impressed, you folks nailed it. Seriously, an orchestra sound, amazing. So, thank you.

It's not one of REM's better known songs but for me it's their best. The lyrics are, to me at least, a mystery, but that melody, AND WHAT A KILLER CHORUS!! Yours is the only cover I've found on RUclips so far and I absolutely love it. Well Done!!!

Back then boys got in fights over girls maybe once once in a school year. We didn't have school shootings, kids on drugs and gangs roaming the streets. We had parents who were strict and cared about their kids. We respected our parents and did what we were told. Vietnam changed everything.

"Stayin' In" got a lot of airplay and hit #33 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US in early 1961. In Australia it peaked at #21 - the flip "Baby Face" was a bigger hit at #4 on the Top 40.

@@thesanfordmethod1905 Some of REM's lyrics, especially from the early years, are of course known for their obscurity, some bordering on the inscrutable. But I'm pretty sure these are accurate. That's when Wendell Gee Takes a tug upon the string That held the line of trees Behind the house he lived in He was reared to give respect But somewhere down the line, he chose To whistle as the wind blows (gonna miss you, boy) And whistle as the wind blows through the leaves (gonna miss you, boy) He had a dream one night That the tree had lost its middle So he built a trunk of chicken wire To try to hold it up But the wire, the wire turned to lizard skin And when he climbed inside There wasn't even time to say (gonna miss you, boy) Goodbye to Wendell Gee (gonna miss you, boy) So whistle as the wind blows (gonna miss you, boy) Whistle as the wind blows with me (gonna miss you, boy) There wasn't even time to say (gonna miss you, boy) Goodbye to Wendell Gee (gonna miss you, boy) So whistle as the wind blows (gonna miss you, boy) And listen as the wind blows through the leaves (gonna miss you, boy) If the wind were colors (gonna miss you, boy) And if the air could speak (gonna miss you, boy) Then whistle as the wind blows (gonna miss you, boy) And whistle as the wind blows (gonna miss you, boy)
